the gluttony weekends

Finally got myself some time to update this space. 

Time has been zooming past so quickly I am already losing track of what I have done. 

Start of the post with the happiest thing today.

Our renovation has finally started!

After months of discussion and negotiation, we are one step closer to our home.

I don't mean to emphasise on how fast time past. 

But seriously, without my phone, it is hard to record down chronologically what had happened 

Had my favourite steamboat again!

Guess where?

WC gave us a treat cos it is his sis' birthday. 

They still had pretty good service , but now they hired Filipinos, which IMO loses the appeal of Hai Di Lo. 

The usual spread, except this time we had ALOT of vegetable. (Spot the 4 cup full)

Haha I was telling WC, we actually spent more than 50 bucks on veggie alone. 

I thought this looks cute. But I don't like the bittergourd. 

We head back to rest after lunch and found a gem near Little India. 

Don't say I never share!

 I am seldom a fan of cafe but I was totally sold by the food sold in Jewel Cafe and Bar @Rangoon Road.

Food aside, the ambience makes it worth visiting already. 

A two level industrial feel cafe, it was pretty quaint on a Saturday night.

Something hard to find in Singapore, where we don't have to try hard not to hear the conversation of those sitting beside you. The service isn't the best, but it ain't that bad either, so not much comment. 

And the highlight! 

We had the OMG burger, topped up 2 bucks for a generous serving of truffle fries.

Doesn't look special but look at this!

I think got effort leh.

Cheddar cheese, beef patty, luncheon meat and veggie.

The patty was a little tough and makes it hard to bite. Haha I thought it tasted a bit like meatball.

WC says they probably took some time to serve that's why it's more tough.

Ok and the reason that I am so biased is because of this!

We also shared a crabmeat linguine which was damn good. 

The pasta was cooked to perfection and topped up with a very crispy fried mantou. 

Not to mention the damn nice chilli crab gravy. *Slurp*

And of course nothing beats the awesome company that we had for the weekend rite?

(Actually I just want to show how lousy S5 camera is under low light)

Had a very exciting Saturday morning but shall share more in another post. 

So we headed to town to collect our "race pack". Hahaha.

Don't know why I agreed to join this with WC. 

Maybe I thought it would be a new milestone for us cos we have never done something like that before.

I know it's a fun run that's just 5km but I am actually quite excited and scared at the same time.

WC keeps rolling his eyes at me whenever I told him I want to rest at home on Saturday before the run. 

Haha please don't judge someone who has never run more than 5km in her life.

 And thanks to zenghu bonus, I gave WC a treat at Crystal Jade Korean Ginseng restaurant!

We were craving for Korean food and up pops LadyIronChef recommendation on google.

I realise it was highly raved but the reviews were dated back to 2012 where we had less authentic Korean food then. 

It lacks the Korean feel but they made it up with the very good service.

For the price, I think I won't visit again though I receive a free Ginseng Chicken voucher for the next visit. HAHAHA.

Hair tied up like ahma in fear of stinking like the BBQ beef.

Free flow panchan which was not very authentifc IMO. 

 Kimchi pancake which was made even more yummy after we pan fried it on the BBQ stove. Heehee.

A mixture of the different wagyu beef parts.

That yellowish looking one is the tongue! FML. 

 

And we ordered this because we are entitled to get it for 9.90 if we spent above 80bucks.

So the two dishes above cost us the price already. Abit ex. 

Okay shall continue tomorrow.

It's TGIF but I have to go work early and come home late. Sian.

Mother's Day celebration!

Think I am falling sick soon (

Feel a little under the weather recently and I hope it doesn't escalate to a fever.

Had been busy celebrating and eating the last two weeks because of Mother's Day.

It is always like a get together for the family over a good meal to give thanks to the mummies who had work so hard the whole year round!

Treated the family to buffet lunch at Tung Luk.

Mummy wanted something Asian yet buffet, so Tungluk is the best choice.

They serve pretty good food though their service needs a little more improvement in my opinion. 

And as the quality of the pictures taken on my phone continues to deteriorate, I can only rely on others for pictures to feed this blog of mine :(

Accompanied mummy to OG after that to try out some dresses for my wedding. 

Hahaha we had so much fun trying out while the two men just sit around and wait.

I think it's time we bring mummy out for a shopping session soon without the men of course!

And dinner was done at a zichar near my aunt's place to celebrate for grandma.

We had two full tables to celebrate for grandma but none remembered to take any photos. 

At least Jia took some pictures of the food!

We ordered so much there was almost no space to put on the table.

Zi Char is best when you have a big group to eat together.
WC and I always ordered the most 3 dishes and we will be too stuffed for me.

And last Saturday was to celebrate great grandma's birthday.
The maternal side is so different from my paternal side.
We had more than 10 tables dinner banquet to celebrate the occasion.
Haha sometimes it feels like a wedding, they wheeled great grandma around to catch up with all of us and you can tell she was so happy to see everyone.

Sunday was a really tiring day for us, cos we have to 赶场 to celebrate for our two beloved mummies!

Lunch at Imperial Treasure steamboat with Wee Cheng's family.

First time trying and I love their sauces and aunty had so much fun experimenting with the sauces. Haha.

We had the ginseng soup which feels very nourishing to us.

WC paid about $240 for the meal, but it's not as fantastic as I thought it would be.

The only thing I liked was the soup.

The same price would give me better food at 海底捞 and JUMBO!

Damn tired after that and we concussed after sending his mum home.

We had to rush back home to do a second round of celebration for mummy cos my very sweet sis felt that we can't not do anything on Mother's Day itself :)

Jane Thai Food

Blogging while WC is watching soccer beside me.

Was expecting a big victory but such a boring match today *yawn*

Saturday was town day!

We have not been to town for some time and were quite surprised by some changes (though I can't really recall what has changed.)

Chanced upon this at Scape cos they were having some eco-fair.

These skyscrapers were built from drinks carton. Doesn't look like it from far right? 

And the reasons we were there was because of Mitju shoe fair.

We saw the advert at Somerset so that became my agenda of the day.

Bagged two pairs for only $35 and one other at $12. 

Cheap or not?

Plus it was a gift from WC cos I haven't been shopping for a long time :)

I forgot what we did in between. 

Sign of old age: Town is no longer interesting. Bahhhh.

Okay I remembered. We had a movie at 940 so WC suggested we walk down to Orchard Tower to try the Thai food I had been raving to him.

FML. I can't even remember the shop cos everywhere seems to be under renovation. 

So I quickly googled and saw Jane Thai Food as recommended by Ladyironchef.

It's a little adventure for us cos it reminded me of Patong, the red light district in Bangkok.

Since I couldn't find the one I tried before, we just quickly settled for this. 

We actually stopped to take a selfie at Orchard Tower. LOL.

(Disclaimer: Not me ok! hehe)

The food didn't fail and they have a bunch of pretty friendly waiters (which I assume are the bosses). 

Ordered the clear Tom Yum Soup. Tasted a little different from what we usually have and a little more sour imo.

Would try the red tom yum next time cos I think the taste will be more balanced. 

The Phad Thai was good too, just not very authentic.
Spot the crabstick in phadthai =_=

3 words: VERY VERY GOOD.
Hahaha ok I know that description sucks. But the prawn cake was really crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside.
MY FAVOURITE!!

The next recipe in my to-cook-list: Basil Pork.
Goes real well with a bowl of white rice.

The bill came up to about $50 with two drinks.
I won't say it's cheap but what's cheap in Singapore anymore?
They have a new Mookata on their menu, so will go try that in future!
