Rainbow cake

How can anyone not feel happy looking at these pretty colours?

I decided to make a rainbow cake for danjakk as a surprise gift to celebrate her last single's birthday. WC and I started on our little baking experiment and I would say it is the most tiring and challenging recipe I had attempted so far!

It sounds simple while researching for recipes on the internet. Basically make a sponge cake, split it into 6 portion and mix your desired colours (this has got to be our favourite part) and send it into the oven for baking. Slap some buttercream in between the layers of cakes and then spread a thick layer on the exterior before sprinkling some colourful rice balls!

(Take note: You really have to make sure your cakes are leveled to prevent your sponge cakes from splitting into two!)

And after 4 hours of baking, it is finally done! :D

Followed the recipe on the ladyironchef's blog. I personally do not really fancy the buttercream cos I find it too buttery for my liking. However the satisfaction from this cake definitely comes from the responses of your friends.

"What's this?"

*cut the cake*

"Woo , WAHHHH RAINBOW LEH! So pretty!"

See what I mean? :)

I also found an alternative to the rainbow cake and thought this looks prettier and more unique. Don't you think so?

Not going to to try a rainbow cake again this week so I am going to attempt some mini rainbow cupcakes for my colleagues and friends instead! Hope it works out better and less tiring than baking a rainbow cake! Till then :)

We love long weekends!

Love the long weekends cos we will never have lingering Sunday blues when night time sets in :)

Headed to Vivo during noon time and it was scarily crowded. Everyone seems to be flocking to Sentosa: From the tourists, to the locals and the foreign workers. Couldn't decide where to have our lunch so spontaneously agreed to WC's idea of having Bak Ku Teh at a famous store near the old railway station.

Thank god it's only a few bus stop away from Vivo so we were spared from the glaring sun.

The guy at the bottom left corner keeps thinking I want to snap a picture of him, that explains why he is looking into my camera. haha.

We were spoilt for choice with the wide variety available

Too bad I don't drink tea. Love such nostalgic kettles and the mood was right with so many uncles sipping tea from the mini teacup

So hungry that I made WC ordered more than usual. Even stuff that he doesn't eat. heehee

Was quite disappointed with this. People who eats pig innate will appreciate the beauty of a bowl of well- cooked kidneys and livers. This bowl tastes a little bland and overcooked :(

The pig trotters were yumz. We got a choice of getting the fatty or the lean parts. Since we can't appreciate the fatty meat, we opted for the lean meat instead. Thumbs up for this!

And of course we need to try their signature dish when we were there. The soup is evident why there were streaming customers even though it is located at a not-so- convenient place. Got a free refill of soup cos one bowl is simply not enough!

Tau- poks.

Not forgetting a photo before we dig in!

Headed back to Vivo for some shopping while waiting to catch our movie. Got tired of walking and settled down for some desserts. First time trying Fruit Paradise and it was surprisingly good! I am never a fan of creamy desserts but this mango tart feels just right for me plus 100% freshness for the mango. Furthermore, WC gave me the raise-eyebrow-look-of-approval the moment I stuffed a mouthful into his mouth. Heehee. Can't wait to go back and try other flavours!

I love the little red heart at the bottom <3

Quite excited to watch Magic Mike but found it a tad disappointing. Refreshing concept but I wondered if it was because too much had been censored away, I don't really feel that I am watching a show about the male dancers. It got a little boring towards the middle of the show and I was just happily feasting on my popcorn.

Didn't realise he's the lead from 'The Vow'

I was telling WC I can understand why these dancers are so popular in the States, cos we only have Steven Lim in Singapore! Imagine the trauma the bride-to-be will get when they try to dance with them! Hahaha.

On a random note, got some ingredients ready for my special project! Hope everything works out well! *wink*

Eat and Merry!

Headed down to Settlers for some board game time cos Weizhen got a really good deal online. $15 pax for 3 hours of game play plus a main dish and two drinks, why not? Board game cafe seems to be losing its popularity, but it's a good alternative to the usual drinking and feasting and indulge in some crazy candid moments with your friends.

Started with this game but I can't exactly remember how it works :p

But the highlight of the game came when we started camwhoring with the pig tokens in the game. See what I mean? The pig family and the ostracized pig. Haha.
Weizhen's Broccoli with chicken.. They are so generous with the chicken you don't see the broccoli. Haha

My seafood laksa pasta. Thumbs up for something different yet nice :)

Happy Yuli! :)

Love's smoked duck pasta. Regretted not ordering this!

While we were busy indulging in our good dinner, guess what JY was doing?
My favourite has gotta be this! <3<3<3

Back to some more game time after that. I am the UGLYDOLL QUEEN!

A group shot before we left. I like how Jieyang poses like a model. haha.

Wanted to find another place to chillout after that and headed to Haato instead. They serve quite decent ice cream and waffles.

I love this! Pretty strawberry waffle with lychee sorbet
It's also a birthday waffle for our birthday boy!

Had to call the night to a stop cos we needed to catch the last train home. We forgotten that it was the eve of Hari Raya and the train services was extended :( Till the next gathering!

Share some love!

We had some Korean food to celebrate our monthsary last Friday. We make it a point to make time for each other on this day every month for a nice meal together :) I had a serious craving for Korean food that day (actually it is just craving for some Korean side dishes). So my sweet boy brought me to Seoul Yummy!

 My Myulchi Bokkeum craving! <3

Very engrossed in my budae jjigae *slurps*

Our set meal comes with a not very nice potato pancake :(

A happy me with my food :)

Love their Budae Jiggae! I like how they infuse the "Korean feel" by playing K Pop in the restaurant, plus two thumbs up for the good service and yummy food! :)

*************

Decided to make our own Budae Jigge the next day. Thought it was a little crazy to do Korean food two days in a row, but we all loved it!

It was a really simple and cost- friendly dish to prepare. Cost us less than $15 to prepare a pot for 3!

Budae Jiggae (Korean Stew)

Serving size: 2-3 pax         Preparation time: 20 minutes

  • 1 small pack of kimchi (optional-but it did add to the flavour in my opinion)
  • 4 sausages
  • 5 crabsticks
  • 200g of thinly sliced pork from the supermarket
  • 1 packet fishcake
  • 1 packet Enoki mushroom
  • 1 packet instant noodle
  • 1 pack of toufu
  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove chopped garlic
  • 1 can of Chicken Stock
  • 250ml of water
  • 2 tbsp Gochujang (hot pepper paste)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

We improvised by adding ingredients that we like and it still turned out pretty yummy! Just  lay the ingredients nicely in layers before adding the stock and water and it's ready!

Doesn't it look good? I am salivating just looking at it.

Just in case you do not know what Gochujang is...  I got this from the supermarket at about $2 per box.

Till the next! :)

We HATCHED

What's better than meeting the best friend on a National day holiday?

Due to the nature of our job, it's so hard to fix a date to meet :( Finally got to meet Van yesterday and since my dear friend wanted to have an Egg Benedict for brunch, HATCHED we went!

We went to the brunch at HV, not hard to locate cos it distinctively stands out in the row of shop houses with the yellow spider-like string hanging on the exterior. It was really small and crowded on a Friday afternoon so we decided to do "alfresco dining" on the outside as we wanted a place to talk.

Love the very cute menu. But that's the only cute page.

I ordered a Phily and danjakk had her Egg Benedict. Nothing fantastic to rave about cos it's just a few pieces of bacon wrapped in an omelette and the presentation is a tad disappointing.

My very happy danjakk with her Egg Benedict. Love her max :)

We also got ourselves a cuppa drink each but it was so disappointing that I don't even bother to take a picture of it. Paid about $5 for a cup of passionfruit juice that taste so bland. But what to expect when it is just a tea sachet in a cup of ice water :( IMPO, I don't think I will patronise them again.

The weather got a little unbearable so we headed to Island Creamery for some dessert. LOVE LOVE LOVE their ice cream! <3<3 Greedy us decided to get two scoops each and ended up too full to finish them.

Van's Teh Tarik and Milo ping pong (we can add milo powder on it too!). The Teh Tarik really taste like Teh Tarik. haha.

My Horlick (love this!) and classic Cookies and Cream. $5.20 for two big scoops, I really think it's worth the money :)

Spent the rest of the afternoon catching up. We are totally excited about her upcoming wedding next year! Lots of funny ideas and "visions" that we have. I am really grateful for a friend like her- someone who totally understands you and stands by you :)|

Looking forward to our next date and cycling outing! :) Gotta head off for facial soon! Ciao!
